Why Environmental Science?

Environmental Sciences is a dynamic field that connects classroom learning to real-world issues. At Dutch Fork Elementary, research has shown that integrating environmental education into the curriculum significantly boosts student achievement- not only in science, but also in reading, math, and social studies. Students naturally gravitate towards environmental topics, which fosters critical thinking and essential life skills.

Our hands-on approach to learning through engaging environmental programs, outdoor exploration, and real-world activities, give students experience with science in action.

Our rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum is incorporated into literacy, math, social studies, science, physical education, technology, and the arts - providing meaningful and well-rounded learning opportunities for every child.

The field of environmental science can be divided into three main goals:

1. To learn how the natural world works.

2. To understand how we as humans interact with the environment.

3. To determine how we affect the environment and find ways to deal with these effects on the environment.
